About Us
The American Hungarian Library and Historical Society, established in 1955 is one of the oldest Hungarian cultural institutions and one of the owners of the Hungarian House in New York City.

The mission of the American Hungarian Library and Historical Society is to promote interest in and knowledge of Hungary, to gather and preserve books and material with historical value and make them available to the public. We strive to be a center of cultural programs, specifically promoting Hungarian literature and arts.

Library Hours
Nyitvatartás
Our book and DVD collection consisting of more than 6,000 volumes is available for reading, research and borrowing.
Library hours are currently suspended

Hungarian Language Course
Magyarórák
For our traditional, now online Hungarian language courses, we welcome adults with Hungarian roots or who are interested in the Hungarian language, from the very beginner to the advanced level.
Hagyományos, jelenleg online magyar nyelvtanfolyamainkra a teljesen kezdőtől haladó szintig várjuk a magyar gyökerekkel rendelkező, vagy a magyar nyelv iránt érdeklődő felnőtteket.

Annual Meeting
The American Hungarian Library and Historical Society held its Annual Meeting via Zoom on April 20. At the meeting, new Bylaws were adopted, the Board of Directors were elected, as well as the Officers. Árpád Krizsán was reelected as the President, Noémi Ali, was elected as Vice-president, Lili Kunfalvi the Secratary, and Kálmán Magyar as the Treasurer. The Board also reviewed the plans for the planned renovation of the Library which can be seen here.

Az Amerikai Magyar Könyvtár és Történelmi Társulat április 20-án, online, Zoomon tartotta meg éves Közgyűlését. Megszavaztuk az új Alapszabályzatot, megválasztottuk az elnökséget: újraválasztottuk elnöknek Krizsán Árpádot, Ali Noémi lett az alelnök, Kunfalvi Lili a titkár, Magyar Kálmán a pénztáros. Áttekintettük továbbá a könyvtár tervezett felújításának terveit.

Partnerships and Sponsors
We are forming partnerships with other Hungarian organizations, not only in New York, to develop and provide valuable content and engage with our community. We hav formed partnerships with or received support from the following organizations:
Fortepan
In cooperation with Fortepan, a free, online photo archive based in Budapest, we are planning on launching a digital archive of stories, photographs, and documents of Hungarian living in the US
Arany János Magyar Óvoda és Iskola
In cooperation with the organizers of the Hungarian School, we have launched our children's program with a kid's film club.
Other activities are being planned
ReConnect Hungary Birthright Program
We are planning joint programs and offering alumni Hungarian content and programs to further their interest in anything Hungarian
American Hungarian Schools Association (AMIT)
Our focus in working with AMIT is to create content to attract teenagers and young adults

The Hungarian government supports organizations like us by funding the annual Körösi Csoma Sándor fellowships, and giving grants to fund refurbishment projects, organize programs, and develop content
Bethlen Gábor Alap
The Bethlen Gábor Foundation, sponsored by the Hungarian government provides annual grants for programs, refurbishments and other activities
